We should not always nominalize the liturgy, but learn to verbalize it. To liturgize.

To liturgize God is to give yourself altogether over to him. To empty yourself of yourself, and to place your life and times, all that you are, all that you have, and all you ever hope to be, into God's hands.

There has only ever been one such act of liturgy. Jesus on the cross. From which much followed, even as Jesus said: Unless The Seed fall into the ground and die, it alone remains! But if it dies, it brings forth much fruit.

We, the baptized, are that fruit. And in union with Christ, we too liturgize the Father in Spirit and Truth. Indeed, our Lord never liturgizes the Father except with his Bride the Church.

The reason we call the format "liturgy" is because it is God's own Word, being given voice by God's own children. Because of what we do thereby. This do!chaplain7904https://www.blogger.com/profile/14568518517581646470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10771467.post-81635684153670941562017-09-08T15:07:57.087-04:002017-09-08T15:07:57.087-04:00Good to hear, Kevin! I serve a small two point country parish. God has an amazing way of providing for us. Four years ago I volunteered to serve as a First Responder in my remote corner of a rural county. After I finished my EMT training I ended up also working one or two nights a week on the local ambulance service. That has provided a small supplement to help keep us nose above water financially.

Lately I've been bummed out, though. An area congregation has had two pastors turn down calls citing insufficient salary, rejecting 20% more than I'm earning. I'm tempted to put my name on the call list. Yet, I'm happy in my current parish. My family likes being settled after moving after four times in seven years prior to our arrival here. My basic daily bread is provided. We haven't made any progress in paying off debt, but somehow manage to avoid bouncing up against our credit card limits. When non-daily needs come up God seems to provide in non-daily ways, such as two vehicles that have been given to me over the past few years. So, in spite of a bit of occasional frustration and anxiety, I think I'll hunker down and make the best of my present situation. Where else in the world could I relax on my day off by driving an ambulance?

Greybeard from Pcom and OL.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10771467.post-18400167432067518692011-01-11T10:43:06.000-05:002011-01-11T10:43:06.000-05:00Been meaning to this for a while now, but just now...Been meaning to this for a while now, but just now getting around to it:

Thank you. I'd be dead if I hadn't had a good night's sleep in twenty years. :-)

But that was such a powerful piece of writing about parenthood and the joys and trials of being one. It never ends, and it gives me, at least, a glimpse of how much God cares for us if He's anything like a parent staying awake just because a little one is scared.

And does this mean you have a new little one? Wow. That's also amazing. Ten kids? I thought I'd be insane with just my two (who are now grown and parents themselves -- I've got one son with four kids of his own and a daughter with two of her own...)

Also.... just thought I'd comment again that your blog does help me with my own journey through Christianity and the love of God. I pray that this holiday season is good for you and your family and that you find a church home that will give you the material things you need and which can use your special talents as a minister.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10771467.post-88303920053304791972010-11-30T15:18:30.448-05:002010-11-30T15:18:30.448-05:00Troy,

I strongly believe that smaller churches- with pastors- worker priests- who rotate times of serving with two-three or four men is viable. the average LCMS church is around 100 members? I believe that would avoid some of the overload- share the load- build additional leaders- create solid folks for more church plants.
